What it is

Mythos is built into a rock face on the lagoon in The Lost Continent, and the room is the first argument for it: a carved cavern interior with a waterfall running down the exterior, high sculpted ceilings, and windows and a terrace looking out across the water toward Hogsmeade and Marvel Super Hero Island. It won best-themed-restaurant awards repeatedly through the 2000s and the build quality has held up.

The cooking is the second argument and it is the stronger one. The kitchen turns out braised short rib, pad thai, risotto, crab cakes and a properly composed vegetarian plate at a level that has no competitor inside this park and few across the walkway. Portions are generous, plating is careful, and the pricing sits well below what a comparable restaurant at Walt Disney World would charge.

It is not fine dining and does not pretend to be. It is a very good, moderately priced restaurant in a spectacular room, in a park where the alternative is a burger counter.

Our verdict

The best food and the best room at Islands of Adventure, at prices well below the Disney equivalent. Book it for lunch and take a window table - it is the one meal in this park worth planning around.

What to order

The dishes this kitchen is actually known for. Menus change seasonally, so treat this as what to look for rather than a guaranteed list.

  • Braised short rib
  • Pad Thai
  • Crab cake sandwich
  • Risotto of the day
  • Vegan Mediterranean plate

Tips for Mythos Restaurant

  • Book lunch rather than dinner. The menu overlaps heavily, the room is quieter, prices are lower and you are not spending prime evening ride time at a table.
  • Ask for a window table or the terrace. The lagoon view is half of what you are paying for and the interior tables away from the glass are noticeably less special.
  • It is the only genuinely good restaurant in the park. If you are eating one proper meal at Islands of Adventure, this is it.
  • Walk-ups are possible on quieter days but far less reliable than at Confisco Grille. Book if the meal matters.
  • The vegetarian and vegan options here are the best in the park by a distance, and the kitchen handles allergies properly.

Braised Short Rib

Mythos Restaurant

$28.99

Slow-braised beef short rib with a potato puree and a reduced braising jus, the long-standing signature main at Mythos.

Our take: The best plate of food inside Islands of Adventure and cheaper than the equivalent at any Walt Disney World signature. This is the dish that justifies booking a table at all.

Do not leave without it Savory

$21.99

Rice noodles with tamarind, peanuts, egg and vegetables, available with chicken, shrimp or as a vegetarian plate, and a fixture on the Mythos menu for years.

Our take: An odd dish to find in a Greek-themed cave and one of the most reliably good things on the menu. The vegetarian version is the best meat-free main in the park.

Near the top of the list Savory Vegetarian

Crab Cake Sandwich

Mythos Restaurant

$23.99

A lump crab cake on a brioche bun with slaw and a remoulade, served with fries at lunch.

Our take: More crab than filler, which is not a given at this price point in a theme park. The lighter lunch order if the short rib is too much at midday.

Mythos Restaurant: common questions

Is Mythos worth it?

Yes, and it is the clearest yes in this park. The cooking is a level above everything else inside the gates, the room is genuinely impressive, and entrees around $21-30 are cheaper than the equivalent at Walt Disney World. Book lunch and take a window table.

Do you need a reservation at Mythos?

It is strongly recommended, especially at dinner and on weekends. Walk-ups are sometimes accommodated on quieter days but it is the one restaurant here that genuinely books out. Confisco Grille is the reliable fallback.

Is Mythos good for vegetarians and vegans?

It is the best option in the park by a wide margin. There is a composed vegan plate, several vegetarian entrees, and a kitchen that handles allergy and dietary requests as routine rather than as an interruption.

What should I order at Mythos?

The braised short rib is the signature and the most consistently praised dish. The pad thai has been on the menu in some form for years and has its own following, and the risotto is the strongest vegetarian-friendly main.
