Isle of Berk is the world that saves the day for families with young children. It is a full Viking settlement built around a harbor, with dragons perched on the rooflines and a sightline down to the water that is the best framed view in the park. Nothing here is trying to frighten anyone, and three of its five experiences have no meaningful barrier to entry.

Hiccup's Wing Gliders is a launched family coaster and the best first big ride for a child moving up from carousels. Dragon Racer's Rally is a pair of spinning arm rides that flip riders over a courtyard. Fyre Drill puts you in a boat with a water cannon and lets two crews soak each other, which is the most fun anyone has in this park for four minutes.

The Untrainable Dragon is the stage show, built around large-scale puppetry rather than film, and it is a genuine sit-down break with air conditioning and a full-size dragon in the room. The play area gives smaller children somewhere to burn energy that is not a queue.

This is also the world to eat in if you are feeding children rather than yourself. Mead Hall does volume well, and the harborside seating is the only place in the park where a long lunch outdoors is genuinely pleasant.

How to Train Your Dragon – Isle of Berk tips

Fyre Drill gets you properly wet, not lightly misted, and the spectator cannons on the dock mean you can be soaked without riding. Stow phones before you walk onto the dock, not before you board.
Take The Untrainable Dragon in the early afternoon. It is the longest air-conditioned sit-down in the park and it lands exactly when small children are finished with standing.
This is the least crowded world for the first hour after opening, because everyone runs to SUPER NINTENDO WORLD or the Ministry. If your party is height-limited anyway, start here and reverse the standard plan.
The harbor rail on the far side of the village is the best photo position in the park in the late afternoon, with the light behind the village rather than in your lens.

Hiccup's Wing Gliders

A launched family coaster over the Isle of Berk, and the best step-up ride in the park for a child moving on from gentle attractions.

Hiccup's Wing Gliders is the family coaster Epic Universe needed. It launches out of the Viking village and runs a low, fast circuit over and around the Isle of Berk, with a flight-themed conceit that puts you on a glider rather than in a cart. Nothing about it is extreme — no inversions, no big drops, no darkness — and it is genuinely exciting rather than merely tolerable.

Tips for Hiccup's Wing Gliders

This is the right first real coaster for a child. If your party is working up to Stardust Racers, ride this one first and read the reaction.
Take it in the first hour after opening. Isle of Berk is the least crowded world at rope drop because everyone runs for the Nintendo portal or the Ministry.
Sit toward the back for a bit more speed through the turns, and toward the front for the clearest views over the harbor.
Use the test seat if you are a larger adult. The restraint geometry on this train is tighter than it looks from the queue.
It shuts down in lightning, which in Florida summer is a near-daily afternoon event. If the forecast is bad, ride it in the morning.

Dragon Racer's Rally

A pair of rotating arm rides that swing and flip riders over the Viking village — much more intense than its position in a family world suggests.

Dragon Racer's Rally is two rotating rides working side by side over the courtyard of the Viking village, swinging riders out and around on arms and rolling them through the top of the arc. It looks like a piece of village scenery from the path and it is comfortably the most physically intense flat ride at Epic Universe.

Tips for Dragon Racer's Rally

Do not put a nervous child on this because the rest of Isle of Berk is gentle. Watch a cycle from the courtyard first — the whole ride is visible from the ground.
Ride it before you eat, not after. This is the most reliable motion-sickness generator at Epic Universe.
The height minimum here matters and is posted at the entrance. Check it before your child gets attached to the idea.
It is one of the shortest queues in the park most of the day, which is a fair signal about who ends up riding it.

Fyre Drill

Two crews of Viking boats soak each other with water cannons in the harbor — the most straightforwardly fun four minutes at Epic Universe.

Fyre Drill is a water-battle ride in the Isle of Berk harbor. You board a boat with a mounted water cannon, the boats rotate slowly around a central point, and everybody attempts to soak everybody else while spectators on the dock join in with their own cannons. There is no story to speak of and no technology worth a press release, and it is one of the best things in the park.

Tips for Fyre Drill

You will get properly wet, not misted. Stow phones and anything else that matters before you walk onto the dock, not before you board.
The spectator cannons on the dock are free and they are aimed at you. Standing there in shoes you care about is a decision, not an accident.
Ride it in the hottest part of the afternoon. It is the single best heat-management tool at Epic Universe and it dries off in twenty minutes.
Bring or buy a cheap poncho only if you genuinely need to stay dry for a reservation later. Otherwise let it happen — half-measures here are wasted.

The Untrainable Dragon

The Untrainable Dragon is a theatrical production in a purpose-built theater on the Isle of Berk, staged with large-scale puppetry, physical performance and practical effects. The dragons are operated at a scale that reads properly from the back of the house, and the craft on display is the reason adults who came in to sit down end up paying attention.

Tips for The Untrainable Dragon

Take an early-afternoon showtime. It is the longest air-conditioned sit-down available to a family in this park and it lands when everyone needs it.
Check the showtimes as you enter Isle of Berk and plan the rest of the world around one, rather than trying to catch the next performance.
Sit in the middle to the back of the house. The puppetry is built to read from a distance and the front rows lose the composition.
It is the most accessible attraction in the park for a mixed-ability group — no height requirement, no transfer, and a story carried visually rather than in dialogue.

Viking Training Camp

The climb-and-play structure in the Viking village, and the best place in the park to let a small child burn off two hours of queuing.

Viking Training Camp is the play area in Isle of Berk — a themed structure of climbs, ropes, ladders and hiding places set into the village, with shaded seating for adults around the edge. It has no queue, no height stick and no schedule.

Tips for Viking Training Camp

Use it as a deliberate scheduled stop rather than a last resort. Twenty minutes here after two long queues genuinely changes the rest of the afternoon.
The shaded seating around the edge is some of the best adult seating in the park, and it is next to the food hall, so one adult can eat while the other watches.
It gets hot by mid-afternoon with the sun overhead. The morning and the last two hours of the day are the comfortable windows.

Meet Hiccup and Toothless

Scheduled meets with the Isle of Berk characters, including a Toothless figure large enough to be worth the queue on its own.

Isle of Berk runs character meets on a published rotation through the day, with the human characters from the films appearing in the village and a large-scale Toothless the main draw. The human performers speak and interact, which makes these meets considerably more engaging than the silent full-costume format used elsewhere in the park.

Tips for Meet Hiccup and Toothless

Check the app for the day's meet times rather than waiting in the village. The rotation is published and the queue closes when the slot is full.
Go at the start of a slot. The last families through get a rushed interaction, and with characters who actually talk that is a real loss.
Frame the photograph with the harbor behind you rather than the village wall. The team members with the cameras know the good angle and will set it up if asked.
