The park's technical centerpiece: a long ride through the French Ministry of Magic that combines several different ride systems in one trip.
Battle at the Ministry is the most complicated attraction Universal has built and the reason a lot of people buy a ticket to this park. You descend from 1920s Paris into the French Ministry of Magic, and what follows is a long ride that changes what it is doing several times — moving through built sets, then screens, then sets again, with vehicle motion doing a great deal of the work in between.
Tips for Harry Potter and the Battle at the Ministry
- Ride it in the first hour or the last ninety minutes. Between roughly 10 AM and 4 PM the wait settles onto a plateau it does not come off, and this is the longest queue in the park.
- Walk the queue rather than powering through it. The Ministry atrium is one of the best-built spaces at Universal Orlando and you only see it properly on the way in.
- Everything loose goes in a locker. Enforcement is strict, the lockers are free for the duration of the ride, and arguing at the platform costs everyone behind you.
- If motion is a concern, this ride combines vehicle movement with large screens, which is the combination that makes people queasy. Sitting toward the middle of the vehicle rather than the outside edge takes the edge off it.
- Check the Le Cirque Arcanus showtimes on the way in. The show is fifty yards away and the two things schedule around each other neatly.
