What it is

The Three Broomsticks is the interior everyone remembers from Hogsmeade: heavy timber beams, a high raftered ceiling with shadows of house-elves moving in it, long communal tables, and windows with warm light coming through. It is a counter-service restaurant dressed as a genuine pub, and the room does more work than any theming elsewhere in the park.

The food is British pub cooking, delivered better than it needs to be. Rotisserie smoked chicken, shepherd's pie, fish and chips, ribs, a Great Feast platter designed for a family to share. The smoked chicken is the strongest order and it is genuinely good rather than merely acceptable, which is not a sentence you write about most themed quick service.

The queue at peak is severe. Between noon and 2 PM the line goes out of the building, and the dining room is full enough that finding a table takes as long as ordering. Mobile ordering and eating at 11 AM or after 3 PM are the two fixes.

The Hog's Head pub is attached to the back of the same building and shares its seating, which is where to go for a drink without the food queue.

Our verdict

The best-themed room at Islands of Adventure with food good enough to justify eating in it. The smoked chicken is a genuinely strong order and the midday queue is genuinely awful - go early or late.

What to order

The dishes this kitchen is actually known for. Menus change seasonally, so treat this as what to look for rather than a guaranteed list.

  • Rotisserie smoked chicken
  • Shepherd's pie
  • Fish and chips
  • The Great Feast platter
  • Butterbeer potted cream

Tips for Three Broomsticks

  • Order the rotisserie smoked chicken. It is the best thing on the menu and the reason this is more than a themed room.
  • Eat at 11 AM or after 3 PM. The queue between noon and 2 PM regularly runs out of the door.
  • Mobile order through the Universal app and go straight to the pickup window rather than joining the main line.
  • Ask to sit in the back room by the fireplace rather than taking the first table you see. It is quieter and better lit for photographs.
  • The Hog's Head pub is attached at the back and shares the seating. Order drinks there and food here and meet at the same table.

Butterbeer

Three Broomsticks

$8.99

The original chilled version of Butterbeer, a cream soda base with butterscotch and shortbread notes under a thick foam cap, served in a plastic cup or a souvenir tankard.

Our take: Closer to what the books describe and sweeter than most people expect. Worth ordering once to compare, and the frozen version is the one you will finish.

Hot Butterbeer

Three Broomsticks

$8.99

The warm version of Butterbeer, closer to a butterscotch steamer with the same cream foam floated on top, served from the Three Broomsticks and the Hog's Head.

Our take: The best of the three on a rare cold Florida morning and an odd choice on any other day. Order it in January, not July.

Drink Vegetarian Walkable

Butterbeer Potted Cream

Three Broomsticks

$7.99

A small pot of butterscotch custard with a cream layer and a shortbread element, served as dessert at the Three Broomsticks.

Our take: The most interesting form Butterbeer takes and the one nobody orders. Get it if you are already eating here; it is not worth a special queue.

Sweet Vegetarian

Rotisserie Smoked Chicken

Three Broomsticks

$19.99

Half a smoked rotisserie chicken with corn on the cob and roasted potatoes, served on a metal tray in the Three Broomsticks dining hall.

Our take: The best thing on the Hogsmeade menu and one of the two best quick-service plates in the park. Order this rather than the shepherd's pie and share it if you are not hungry.

Do not leave without it Savory Gluten-friendly

Shepherd's Pie

Three Broomsticks

$17.99

Minced lamb and vegetables under a mashed potato crust, baked and served in its own dish with a side salad.

Our take: Competent and heavy, and a strange thing to eat in Florida in August. It works in winter and it is the wrong order at 90 degrees.

Fish and Chips

Three Broomsticks

$18.99

Beer-battered cod fillets with thick-cut chips, served with tartar sauce in the Three Broomsticks.

Our take: Genuinely decent batter and a large portion. Not a reason to queue, and a perfectly good thing to eat once you are inside.

Three Broomsticks: common questions

What should I order at the Three Broomsticks?

The rotisserie smoked chicken. It is the best thing the kitchen does and it holds up against anything else in the park. Shepherd's pie is the next-best order, and the Great Feast platter is the way to feed four people at once without four separate queues.

Do you need a reservation for the Three Broomsticks?

No, it is counter service with no reservations. The constraint is the queue, which runs out of the door between noon and 2 PM. Mobile ordering through the Universal app is the single most effective fix.

Can you get Butterbeer at the Three Broomsticks?

Yes, in cold, frozen and hot forms, along with the Butterbeer potted cream dessert. If the queue inside is long, the outdoor Butterbeer carts in the village sell the drinks with a far shorter wait.

Is there vegetarian food at the Three Broomsticks?

Yes. There is a vegetarian pasty and salad option and the kitchen handles allergy requests properly, though the menu is meat-heavy by design. Vegetarians will find more choice at Confisco Grille or Mythos.
